ABOUT ME

Maria Voukia is an Architect and Sustainability Engineer, holding two Master’s degrees and numerous academic scholarships. She studied “Architectural Engineering” at the National Technical University of Athens-N.T.U.A. (2012) and received her second Master of Science degree in “Energy Efficient and Sustainable Building” at the Technical University of Munich-TUM (2016). Due to her outstanding academic performance she was awarded a full two-year scholarship.

Her master’s thesis was awarded with the note of 1/4 (First-Class Honours) placing her among the top students of the program. As part of her master’s thesis, she evaluated alternative methods of achieving thermal comfort and acceptable indoor air quality in school buildings. Goal of this evaluation was to investigate how to implement the quantification of embodied energy in the preliminary design phase in order to obtain a low embodied carbon building that combines reduced operational energy demand and optimal comfort conditions.

In a career to date, she has worked in the fields of sustainable real estate development, green building consulting and project management (Rheform, 2015), gaining valuable practical experience in the sustainable life cycle design. She has also worked as an architectural intern for Lang Hugger Rampp Architects (2014) and as an architect engineer for Hirsch Architects (2012-2013) in Germany, where she gained valuable practical experience in energy efficient and sustainable design of buildings.

Specialties: Architectural design, sustainable design of buildings, whole life cycle assessment, low/zero carbon design and strategies, dynamic energy simulation, thermal analysis, building physics, sustainable real estate development, BIM.
